I've been freaking out.

I don't know why I should be freaking out about a family gathering. But I was so nervous I'll say something stupid. Or get drunk (this is silly as I actually do have some self control). Or embarras my dad and brother. I was freaking that my tickets wouldn't arrive in time. I started to freak out about taking the fucking tube. This is pathetic but they get so full and I always bump into people on the escalators and it's not like I think they're all going to explode but there's been a shitload of 7/7 stuff lately. It's all just fuelling my nerves. I normally don't take them and just walk and take pictures and soak up some atmosphere, like I did when I went to Surrey for that wedding last year, but I need to get from Kings Cross to Waterloo to be on a certain train to be picked up. I feel a damn site better now I've been to Oxfam, got a ton of stuff done, come home and done a good clean up and thrown a ton of rubbish away and opened the window and lit a joss stick and drunk a load of water. I think I'm getting the hang of this.

Note that despite all this freaking out I've been Exited actually and I would hate to not go hence the ticket thing. But they are here. And I got the cheapest new pair of shoes ever, courtesy of Oxfam, metallic purple ones to match my pretty 1950s party dress. I'm pretty much all ready to go!

So to celebrate, I'm doing a videospam of my top five fave songs with London in them. In reverse order.

5. Noel Coward - London Pride

I first came across this song on Last Night of the Proms many moons ago when Jeremy Irons was doing it as part of a Noel Coward feature. I guess it's a bit cliched and I can be very cynical about the Blitz Spirit thing. I've read enough about the darker side of that era. But god I love this song. It's also one of Malachi's faveourites after all the Flying Wing shit has kicked off and turned London into a bloody mess.

Wiki says (which I remember from LNOTP now) According to his own account, he was sitting on a seat on a platform of a damaged railway station in London, and was "overwhelmed by a wave of sentimental pride". The song started in his head there and then and was finished in a few days. Can I saw awwwwwwww?

4. The Pogues - The Old Main Drag

From one extreme to another?! This isn't a very *nice* song but then it's the Pogues. I could probably have done this just with Pogues songs but that isn't the point.

3. The Jam - In The City

To be fair it doesn't actually say London but they are from Surrey. Actually I have a beutiful memory of it coming on my mp3 player just when I was coming into London on a coach, going past some roundabout feature all lit up in pink and purple and wow. I treasure that moment.

2. The Clash - London Calling

The title of every episode of anything ever where they go to London. It's a creepy song with some awesome imagery (London calling to the zombies of death... eeeeeeee) and all sorts of nasty stuff coming into the lyrics. And Joe Strummer (RIP :( ) had such a unique voice. My top ever male vocalist along with Shane of course.

The whole album is pretty fucking good too!

1. The Pogues - Dark Streets of London

I don't know why I put this at number 1 really. It just instantly came to mind. The tune and the imagery and everything. Oh Shane, what would my life have been without you. Pogues fan here since age of six when I overheard my dad playing them. Actually the connection to my dad makes this even better I guess cos I'm seeing him at the weekend though not in London itself.

Hope some of you enjoyed it!
